Descendants of the Algonquin Language Bands, The Pocasset Wampanoag Tribe is a member of the original Pokanoket Federation led by Grand Sachem Massasoit otherwise known as Ousamequin (Yellow Feather). The Pocasset Tribe encompassed present-day Tiverton, RI, and parts of Southeastern Massachusetts including Fall River, Freetown, Dartmouth, Fairhaven, Westport, Swansea and Middleboro. The Pocasset Tribe was a first contact tribe headed by Chief Corbitant, father of Female Sachem Weetamoe, King Phillips’ Sister in Law. The Pocasset was one of the largest and most powerful tribes in the Pokanoket Federation.
Pocasset Chief Corbitant was one of the original signers of the 1621 Treaty at Plymouth with the Pilgrims.
Pocassets have maintained their identity throughout history and still, today possess the first reservation in this country, ‘The Watuppa Pond Reservation’ in Fall River and Freetown Massachusetts.
Our reservation is the only Pocasset Territory reserved indefinitely for the Royal Family line of Massasoit and their Clans. Today the Pocassets have a traditional ‘Clan Style’ Tribal Council of Chiefs that administrates the tribes’ day to day operations.
The Pocasset Tribe is true to its Eastern Culture and maintains a Pokanoket Nations Drum shared by the Affiliated Tribes of New England Indians in which we use the traditional Algonquin language, The Eastern Medicine Singers headed by Council Chief Daryl Black Eagle Jamieson. Our tribe stays true to our way of hunting, fishing and organizing the people to keep our traditions. We still maintain our ‘Original Sovereignty’ and we are members of ‘The Alliance of Colonial Era Tribes’ and ‘The Affiliated Tribes of New England Indians’, which promotes unity and collaboration with our fellow tribes.
We claim all Sacred Sites and Artifacts of the Pocasset Wampanoag Tribe of the Pokanoket Nation as our ancestral lands and possessions.

Reservation Security & Environmental Officers
Chief of Security Dave Little Tree D’Brosca 401-263-2783
Duties: Chief of Security Police within reservation boundaries. Patrols reservation manages officers under his command. Coordinates with local police departments who have no jurisdiction on reservation per treaty.
Environmental Chairman Director – Daryl Black Eagle Jamieson 401-413-2167
Duties: Oversees wildlife records, establishes game harvest both hunting & trapping. Oversees environmental issues both water & waste on reservation.
Tribal Environmental Protection Officer – Ricky Leaping Deer
Duties: In charge of hunting and fishing on reservation, patrols reservation, works directly with Vice Chairman on implementing policy and environmental procedure such as hunter safety and firearms training. Issues tribal hunting licenses and record keeping of game harvests. Maintains trapping records. Environmental Protection Officer enforces reservation regulations and safety.
Systems and Program Development – Duane ‘Yellow Feather’ Shepard 323 646-5247
Duties: Oversees the creation of Tribal Support Programs and Infrastructure Development. Develops Strategic Partnerships with Public Agencies and Community Partners. Chief in Charge of Covert Operations Prevention Services (COPS).
